For many years my focus has been on musculoskeletal pain relief which increasingly has become the province of massage therapists. I have always preferred to utilize a variety of techniques rather than just one because pain comes in many guises.
Chronic pain is delicate thing and over the years I've found that when individuals have been in pain for a while it's more essential than ever for the practitioner to be present, to listen, and to remain flexible.
An individual experiencing chronic pain often has a vicious feedback loop circulating between their muscular system and nervous system which doesn’t allow the muscles to calm down. What’s often most needed is very detailed, yet extremely gentle treatment in order to stimulate blood flow without causing irritation.
This the territory in which Neuromuscular Technique excels: treating chronic pain by calming down the feedback loop between musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
There, of course, other reasons for chronic pain like fascial tightness restricting joint movement, pelvic torsion, and muscular compensations, to name of few. That’s why I like to have a number of modalities to draw from and why, nearing 20 years in private practice, I keep studying and learning.
For example, the recent addition to my practice of Active Isolated Stretching has greatly expanded my success with certain problems with which I was only having marginal success before. If you’re interested, please visit the Active Isolated Stretching page on this site. There I talk about meeting the founder of Active Isolated Stretching, Aaron Mattes, in Costa Rica where I studied his work for the first time.
If you have any questions about my work, please don’t hesitate to call. Or you can use the contact form on this site and I will email you back as soon as possible.
Wishing you health and freedom from pain!
